I participated in the Spring 2023 xAPI Cohort and joined a team focused on using ChatGPT.
Our team decided to create an experience that would nudge learning professionals to experiment with ChatGPT and survey them about their opinions on generative AI. I suggested the tool (Twine), which our developer happily adopted and did wonders with.
I joined the content design work stream, collaboratively ideating, writing, and editing in a storyboard. I created a design doc when I felt we needed to align on learning objectives and flow, also helping to manage parts of the project.
I identified data to collect in the design doc to help us find consensus on what kind of data we needed to collect to present at the final cohort meeting. A learning analytics expert eventually joined us, helping to better define that data and create a fantastic Tableau dashboard.
We ultimately saw almost 100 people complete our module and got lots of positive feedback on the experience. Many said the course got them using ChatGPT for the first time.
Key takeaways for working with xAPI
I participated in the xAPI cohort not to become an expert in coding xAPI, but to understand its potential for measurement. I wanted to come away with ideas for how I might effectively work with the person who IS coding xAPI from my role as program manager or designer.
My takeaways:
-
Identify all the interactions and refer to them in a consistent way for the person coding xAPI.
-
Decide in advance how you want it to look in the dashboard.
-
Have a plan for what will happen if you iterate on the UX later. How will this impact the data?
